User-Contributed Transcription 88It has some narrow bottoms with a pretty good supply of small timber upon it, such as Willow, Alder, Aspen, Sumac wild rose and the greatest quantity of Currants yet seen in the Country, Service bushes are quite plenty but the berries are not yet ripe Upon this Creek there are plenty of prarie Chickens and small gray Rabbits, The "Curlew" a species of large snipe, here made its appearance. "Kiatas" (small prarie wolf) are very plenty Travelled up Rock Creek 8 m crossing crossing[sic] from one side to the other four different times and camped for the night near a Claim upon which there is a family livingSund June 24th As the Dalles & Walla Walla Road left the Creek some three miles below, we now start with our Stock across the hills & intersected said Road in about 5 m & continue on, over gently rolling land, to "Willow Creek 20 miles where we arrived at 2 PM; about two miles before you reach Willow Creek, on the left of the road, may be seen two graves, one of sufficient size for a grown person and the other probably a child of 8 or 10 yrs there were boards at the heads of each, but no inscriptions or initials of any kind. After the road commences the descent to Willow Creek, it is very gradual for one mile, winding round, among the low hills as you descend to the little valley on the Creek
