Summary Book of parables and sermons in Tzeltal and a Tzeltal grammar, compiled by the Dominican father Fray Domingo de Ara, probably around 1560. The first 140 [i.e. 130] leaves contain a series of "comparaciones" or spiritual and moral lessons, based on comparisons with events in nature and everyday life.  For example, Ara compares the virtuous man to the sun, the greedy man to a drowning person, Christ to a doctor who "heals" the sinner.  In other lessons, the soul is a garden to be cultivated and tended by the gardener, or a precious treasure like gold to be protected. Also included are four sermons in Tzeltal: for the administration of the sacraments, for those about to be married, for the marriage ceremony, and for confession before communion.   Signatures at the end of the sermons include those of Fray Francisco de la Vega; Fray Diego Llorente; don Rodrigo de Loyola, treasurer for the bishop of Cádiz; and don Hieronymo de Padilla y Medina, treasurer for don Maximiliano de Austria, bishop of Cádiz.  In conclusion, a Tzeltal grammar, with the heading "Incipit ars tzeldaica por. R.P.F. Dominicum de Hara," contains explanations of basic grammar points, including nouns, verb tenses, infinitives, and participles.  The final three leaves contain a table of contents.
