Summary Copy, dated 1800 in Ocotlán, owned by Father Juan Francisco Torralba of the province of San Ypólito Mártir of the city of Oaxaca, of an anonymous Zapotec grammar and confessionary, probably written sometime after 1666. The first 48 leaves contain a grammar in Spanish of the Zapotec language, including notes on pronunciation; explanations of the various parts of a sentence; verb conjugations; and extensive discussion of dipthongs and particles.  Also included are sections on numbers and ways of counting in Zapotec; and Spanish-Zapotec glossaries for parts of the body, kinship terms, and names of towns.  The liturgical texts for administering the sacraments of baptism, communion, last rites, and marriage are given in Spanish and Zapotec, arranged in double columns on each page, as is the "Confessonario zaapoteco del valle," with questions and responses based on each of the Ten Commandments. Also included are glossaries of nouns and verbs listed according to conjugation; dialogues of common phrases in Zapotec; and a second confessionary from the village of Santa María Petapa. Additional notes at the end of the ms. list deaths of parishioners in various villages from 1786-1798; and accounts of parish revenues from tithes, and expenses for masses.
