Some correspondence and documents concern travel to California begun in 1849.

[Pratt to Nathan Kendall]Amherst (Call) March 31/46My Good Friend KendallYours came to home this day and I rely with all possible dispatch. I am quite anxious that you should come here and think there will be no serious obstacle It is a question in my mind where you had better strike but think you had can go about when you please. You will find it for your advantage to spend as much time in College as you can If you should enter the present Freshman class you will be able to take a higher standing and receive more benefit from the course. But after all I cannot say that I think it advisable in your case I have just seen the Pres. He says you can enter at any point you please provided you will sustain examination in the previous studies or if you should fail in the same particular you might make it up at vacation or at your leisure. I send you a Catalogue in which I have marked the studies gone over by the Freshmen and Sophs. thus far. You will not be
