Correspondence, writings, documents of Nathan Kendall and wife Abby J. Reed Kendall of Massachusetts, Indiana and Illinois, including many letters to each other before and after marriage in 1857, as well as numerous letters to and from members of their families, friends and former students. Some correspondence and documents concern travel to California begun in 1849.

Platts Chesterfield NH Dec 15 1846Friend Kendall Dear, Sir, The Trustees of the Academy Met at the Academy Last Wednesday. and the subject of splitting up the school next spring came up first. it was unanimously voted to offer you the school upon the conditions you kept the last two years and I was appointed the Committee to procure a teacher- and correspond with you on the subject.It was voted unanimously also to give the use of the Academy for the County common school teachers institute, provided it would not interfere with the Academy school, for the spring term. You will take notice thereof and govern your self accordingly No new except it seems the Exhibition gave general satisfaction in town and out Let me hear from you on the subject of the Academy as soon as it suits your convenience Yours truly W.R. Platts
