Correspondence, writings, documents of Nathan Kendall and wife Abby J. Reed Kendall of Massachusetts, Indiana and Illinois, including many letters to each other before and after marriage in 1857, as well as numerous letters to and from members of their families, friends and former students. Some correspondence and documents concern travel to California begun in 1849.

PS. A lady who is boarding in the house with us and has been here all winter has kindly permitted the use of her notes about the weather by which I learn that it was unusually cold here about Christmas more so than for 20 years. Dec 24th at 8 A.M the mercury stood at 4 degrees below zero Dec 25th 2 degrees above " 26th 23 " " " 27th 21 " " " 31st 41 " "This was the coldest Jan was a delightful month twenty days marked down for pleasant. The ladys brother who is an invalid was able to be out riding so many days. Feb there were at least 16 days fit for invalids to go out in no snow till the week before Christmas not much then yours truly S. K. R. W.[ales]
