User-Contributed Transcription not be able to attend, the principle obstacle that impeds our way is, the great drouht that we have had this season, has caused the brooks to be so very dry. that we do not think it possible for us to make our way down there on a shingle; and as there is no other method of conveyance by water, we think we should be under the necessity of remaining at home; which will be a great disappointment to us, for it is notat all probable that another so favorable an opportunity will everpresent itself; But although we cannot ourselves attend, we havedone all, that was within our power to do, to entice othersto attend; whether we succeeded in any instance, we have notas yet ascertained, yet we trust we have - You were perfectlyexcusable for not answering our papers sooner, in the goodfall sheet that you sent us, it was worth a dozen paperswe assure you, for you know it is against the law to writeon them. Suppose that you have got to be "quite pious," as youyou informed us that there was an Orthodox & Methodist churchand no Universalist one, so suppose you are obliged to attend one ofthem, should think it would not be very pleasant foryou on that account. Do you have any systematic walks inyour school? or have you erasidated then from your code oflaws? if not hope you will before they call forth as mucheloquence, as was manifested at [MAC?] about the time thatthe "systematics" were going down to Unionsville to "lick [lasses?]" -The school at P. Mill. is in a flourishing condition had 50scholars the first week, quite a number more are expectednext week - think they will have a grand school. Saw allof the scholars yesterday, they were all well, and in good
