Correspondence, writings, documents of Nathan Kendall and wife Abby J. Reed Kendall of Massachusetts, Indiana and Illinois, including many letters to each other before and after marriage in 1857, as well as numerous letters to and from members of their families, friends and former students. Some correspondence and documents concern travel to California begun in 1849.

for reflection and perhaps at a later period when our minds have become more matured we may be able to form some or even many correct conclusions. we are quite confident that we already comprehend the great fundamental principles of religion and would be most happy if we were only able to live in accordance with its teachings. We were glad to hear that your health is better and hope it may continue to improve Sister Caroline from Ann Arbor is with us spending a few months, we are of course enjoying her society very much. Cleveland has not been more favored than other cities this season in regard to health. we have shared the common fate to some extent, but have succeeded in avoiding any severe illness.
