Gossip about NothingHearers, did you ever attempt to write near the Winter Solstice. If so did you not find your ideas as frigerific? as if you were writing at The Poles? However much you might wish to have your thoughts flow as freely as the ink, in which you dipped your pen fresh nibbed for your arduous undertaking. Having begun, did you not find the diluted fluids with which your page was disfigured, an exact type of the exceeding by vigorous thoughts it had been employed in giving a local habitation? Was not your imagination as cold as the Northern Light? without a particle of their brilliance? Is not Autumn one of the best seasons of the year? Spring has its pleasures and so has Summer and Winter. In Autumn, we are reminded of the decay or animated The Melancholy that steals over us as we survey the changes which are well calculated to teach us good lessons, concerning the frailties of our own Life. But I did not intend to preach you a sermon. In Spring we can bound over hill and dale, and listen to the merry songs of the birds and gather flowers from every nook and corner. Autumn & winter are the seasons for reflection and study , and to which shall we give the preference, to winter with its cold storms and merry sleigh rides or to Autumn with its mellow fruits. We like this festival of our fathers lets have no inovations upon the good old custom let no rude reformers lay ruthless hands upon it, let it be as it has ever been a festival for old and young. So ends my gossiping for this time I commence each with Nothing and end with Nothing I have touched upon a varity of subject and made nothing out of them. But as this is an age of Know Nothing perhaps I may be excused for knowing nothing. Eva
