User-Contributed Transcription that may be easily understood it adds much to the appearance of an individual. He does not feel as though his hands were in the way. And if a serious subject for conversation be introduced he does not wish it to turn upon something trivial but encourages a continuance of the same by taking an active part in conversing upon it. No one should desire or expect another to adopt his views till he has produced sufficient evidence to convince him of their truth. And no one should be content with teaching others who receive his instructions as exactly right but should encourage reflection on the part of the individuals whom he is laboring to enlighten. A preacher of the gospel that is well fitted for the station which he occupies will not be content with imparting instruction to those who take it for granted that everything he says is right but he will desire his hearers to take a deep interest in what is said and to examine for themselves and see that 'tis right and investigate the subjects that are treated upon each succeeding Sabbath still farther than he has to do in the short time that is allotted him. In this way anyone can form opinions of their own. He will be able to stand on his own footing, be independent of others in that respect. After opinions have been carefully formed in this way they should not be withheld for fear of ridicule but should be expressed whenever an opportunity is offered. The ridicule of anyone that will stoop to it when strong arguments are presented is not worth minding. His respect and esteem nee not be cared for much less desired but his company should be avoided for fear of being influenced by him to do as he has done.
