Description
Correspondence, writings, documents of Nathan Kendall and wife Abby J. Reed Kendall of Massachusetts, Indiana and Illinois, including many letters to each other before and after marriage in 1857, as well as numerous letters to and from members of their families, friends and former students. Some correspondence and documents concern travel to California begun in 1849.

And ye shall choose to yourselves two editresses every week and they shall cheerfully insert everything presented worthy of the paper which they edit. And the scholars with one voice began to make excuses saying I can not write well enough. I have no time, etc. -- I pray thee excuse me Then said the teachers except ye are sick and unable to write ye can in no wise be excused. So they chose for their Editresses Josephine and a yankee whom they call Mary. Now the time was come for the Editorial and Mary said I cannot write it, then said Josephine unto her oh! but thou canst write it: but she denied again saying I cannot write it; indeed thou must write it else we have none and our hearers will grieve. Now it came to pass when evening was come and she sat sorrowfully at her task there came a voice crying Behold thou hast it on thy page, be troubled no more, and she looked and lo! it was there, and from that hour her heart was made glad. In the mean time there was a Kentuckian who volunteered to head the paper and it was delivered unto him and he inscribed there on "The school girls offering ? M.E. VincentA truth. Less sin would be committed were men to act as though all saw them.
