User-Contributed Transcription St. Louis Jan. 10th 1843My Dear Wife,I can inform you that we arrived here yesterday, without receiving any injury, except the ware and tare of boat, what was considerable, and we had to force our way through the Ice, nearly all the way from Cairo up and some part of the distance was very heavy. The weather here has somewhat moderated, and today we have had quite a little flurry of snow, with considerable Ice still running in the River. We have nearly discharged our Cargo, and got clear of the most of our Emigrant passengers. And if the weather continues mild, we will commence loading again for N. Orleans, and probably depart for that port, within two days, as the water is on the fall, which will cause us to be in haste. On the evening of the 6th inst. whilst we were laying by to wood, and experienced a severe storm of wind and rain, and as we proceeded on the next day we saw the wreck of a steam boat, just below Liberty, which is 75 miles below St. Louis, and stoped to inquire what is was, on inquiry found it to be a little boat called the "Light" which was capsized by the squall of the 6th inst. as mentioned above,
